Back in 2003, due to ill health, I was given enough time and space to get together the bones of a trilogy of books. Since then I could only ever find scant amounts of time to work on them.
I am a passionate writer when I get going. This past year I have been allowed to indulge in my passion, as a result I see the fruits of my labour. In January 2013, I published my first ever ebook ‘Rogue Spirit’. That was a tremendous achievement for me personally. On the 13th April 2013 I published my second book ‘A Throwback in Evolution’. This one I would regard as my best, both in the enjoyment of writing and the storyline. I have worked round the clock to bring a completion to this book, so I will take a break before I continue my quest to get the last book of the trilogy published.
I love words, they have been my strength throughout my life. When I was a little boy my grandma used to call me the professor, I think it was because of my inquisitiveness, I would always ask for clarification on those words or things I struggled to understand. It was when I reached about ten years old, that I took a keen interest in increasing my vocabulary. I remember vividly searching through the dictionary to find a new word, its spelling, pronunciation, meaning and the context it could be used in, I used to make it my target to learn a new word per day. I would be out playing with my friends, I was the smallest in the group and kids being kids they used it against me in gestures. I would await my opportunity and in the midst of a conversation I would drop one of my new found words in and puzzle them.
I am happiest when I am writing. Writing to me is freedom, it induces my passion. I step into a zone in my cabin on my own, it’s there that I work best. Most times I have no idea what I am going to write about, ok fair enough when I am writing my books I know the storyline, but I sit at my desk and flick through what I have written and usually something comes to mind, and from that point it flows.
I have joined forums and discussion groups, they are good, but the real test came last week when I was invited to do a reading from my latest book at the Dundalk Book Festival. I am pleased to say it went well and I got some promising acknowledgments from my fellow writers. It feels good to be told by fellow writers that your work is good, you know they are sincere and that meant a lot to me.
